A Simple Favour is a twisting free-fall ride filled with betrayal, reversal, secrets and revelations, love and loyalty. Darcey Bell ratchets up the tension in a taut, unsettling, and completely absorbing thriller that holds you in its grip until the final page.

It starts with a simple favour - an ordinary kindness mothers do for one another.

When her best friend, Emily, asks Stephanie to pick up her son from school she happily says yes.
Their children are classmates and best friends. And five-year-olds love being together - just like she and Emily. As a widow and stay-at-home blogger mum living in suburban Connecticut, Stephanie was lonely until she met Emily, a glamorous and successful PR executive.

The trouble is that Emily doesn't come back. No matter what the police say, Stephanie knows that she would never leave her son. Terrified, she reaches out to her fellow mummy bloggers.

And she also reaches out to Emily's husband - just to offer her support.

What Stephanie hasn't shared are the secrets buried in a murky past.

  • Where's the ending

Got yo the end of this not very realistic book and didn't even realise it was the end! Sort of left hanging almost as if the writer had literally had enough and ran out of fanciful ideas so thought, "OK, I'm done"! Maybe there's going to be a second book starting off where the writer left off?
  • Gripping!

Keeps you hooked, wasn’t keen on the ending of how things were left but a good read none the less!
  • Where’s the ending?!

Found it quite hard to get into, all the different perspectives were a tad much. Not too sure how it was thought good enough to be made a movie but hopefully it’s been changed a hefty bit to make it less dull!
  • Awful

I rarely leave negative reviews but everything is wrong with this. I can’t get past the annoying main character and the way the ‘blog’ is structured (you don’t have to write ‘be right back’ in a blog if someone comes to the door, you can just not click ‘send’ until you finish writing it, completely). Maybe on this occasion the film will be better.
  • Good but not as good as the film

Good but not as good as the film, more twists and turns
  • So sl

The book starts off well... the blogs from Stephanie are a great contrast to her chapters she manages to really annoy you both from the blogs and her chapters and you find yourself wanting Emily’s plan to work...the book has a gone girl feel to it but it doesn’t quite live up to it...good read if not a little predictable and far fetched
  • Gripped

I read this in 3 days! The characters were all brought to life straight off of the pages and with each part my opinion changed of each character. Ending felt a little predictable which was surprising as every time I thought previous that it was getting predictable it suddenly changed and surprises constantly throughout.
  • Is that it?

I really enjoyed this book, it was well written and gripping... BUT the ending (or lack thereof) was a huge let down. When I turned the page I thought to myself, erm is this a mistake? Where’s the end? Oh well. Hoping the movie has an added interesting ending.
