Description

The Sunday Times bestseller

‘Funny, touching and unpredictable’ Jojo Moyes

Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive – but not how to live

Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend.

Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything.

One simple act of kindness is about to shatter the walls Eleanor has built around herself. Now she must learn how to navigate the world that everyone else seems to take for granted – while searching for the courage to face the dark corners she’s avoided all her life.

Change can be good. Change can be bad. But surely any change is better than… fine?

‘Heartwrenching and wonderful’ Nina Stibbe

‘Deft, compassionate and moving’ Paula McLain

‘I adored it. Skilled, perceptive, Eleanor's world will feel familiar to you from the very first page. An outstanding debut!’ Joanna Cannon

I was not sure at first but am so glad that I read this (in 3 days). What a fabulous story, it starts to wrap around you like a warm blanket and next thing you know, you are completely encased in the story, wanting to find out something you think you don’t really want to know. It was funny, it was sad and I am so glad that I read it, albeit too fast. If you are wondering if you should read it, I say yes, and hurry, you will not regret it.

A reminder of how you never quite know the struggles of a person and how small acts of kindness from the most unassuming of hero can make a huge difference to someone’s life. I really enjoyed watching Eleanor grow and highly recommend this warm and touching novel.

Could not put this book down. From the first sentence to the final word it grips you with themes of loneliness and love and it’s totally relatable to real life. Fabulously written, one of the best books I’ve read for a long time!

I’ve just finished this book as recommended by a group for people who have lost babies. It’s helped me on my journey to find myself again after my traumatic event. I felt I really got to know the characters and went on a journey with Eleanor. Her character made me laugh but also made me feel sad for her. Very true to life & well written. Looking forward to the next book...
